Play School Anyone?

Today, we had a day out at the Play School Concert at the City Hall. My mum (Gran to the girls), and her friend Jan and grandson Noah also came along.

There's something about Play School that even after 40 years, the songs and the props just never seem to date. On stage were Angela and Alex accompanied by Bill on the keyboard.

We had a great time and of course I had to buy a little something for Sophie - a Jemima Ballerina Doll and Book. We also enjoyed a coffee afterwards at the Museum Cafe. A great day out!

Sophie's Birthday Party

We had a lovely afternoon tea party for Sophie's 3rd Birthday. I just kept it simple and had a couple of friends & their children over. The food consisted of honey joys, fairy bread, chips, fruit platter, sausage rolls, teddy bear cars (as requested by Emma!) and of course the cake.

We did have a game of musical chairs as a bit of fun, and then they just played together.

"road rage"!

Happy Birthday Little Princess

Well today marks the occasion of my youngest's 3rd Birthday. I can't really believe it. The strange thing is that I also woke this morning at exactly the same time as she was born - freaky!

Anyway, we've had a lovely day, which was actually preceeded by a family birthday dinner for my niece last night, who turned 11. The kids (all 4 of them - 3 girls & 1 boy), were up until around 9:30pm last night, so I knew today would be trying.

We had present opening this morning, followed by a rushed breakfast before heading out the door to take my eldest to school. Sophie & I then went to Thursday morning Kindermusik class, where they all sang happy birthday. We then went and had a lovely coffee and cake with Gran (my mum).

Then we rushed back home to pick up my hubbie, so the 3 of us could go and have our haircut - a bit overdue! After having her haircut, Sophie also had her nails painted a lovely pearlescent pink - nothing like a girly day out to the hairdressers (even if dad comes as well). She was very excited about her haircut and nails being painted, and even posed for some photos.

Tonight I am cooking cupcakes, to take to childcare tomorrow and we will also be having a small afternoon tea party for her and some friends on Saturday afternoon.

Fabrics Found

Today I purchased a number of fat quarters for use on my appliqued tee's. I have so many designs but will stick with a couple at the moment and add more over time.

I am very excited to be getting started and have my sewing machine and supplies all set up. I still need to find the manual for the sewing machine as it is a fully programmable "quilters edition" Bernina, which I have never used before. It was my mother-in-law's who sadly passed away just over 2 years ago, and I'm sure she would be happy to know that it is going to be put to good use.

Well I'd better get stuck into it, so I can post some pictures of my new designs soon.

My Button Creations

I definitely have a thing for buttons at the moment, which is one reason I bought the beautiful button creations at the market. I have however had a go at making some fabric covered button hair ties myself.

I made these last week for the very first time. I bought them as a kit, with all the materials and instructions. They are 23mm buttons on thin hair ties. I made 10 in all and had them all finished in around 20 mins. I really enjoyed making them, and am definitely going to make a lot more for the "Sunday's Child" label. I particularly like the spots.

P.S I just realised that there is one button missing from the photo - it's a Babushka doll print, which I think is my favourite, very cute!

Button Accessories

Here are the photos of the lovely purchases from the market yesterday.

They are all equally as nice, the button hair ties are "so cute", and I just love the flower hairclip - hopefully Emma will too!

The button brooch was a purchase for me, and I know it will get a lot of wear as the colour is quite neutral and will go with everything.

The Market - Hobart

Today I spent a lovely hour or so, wandering around "the market", held at the Masonic Temple in Hobart. This was the fifth event for the market, however it was the first time I had been. What a wonderful mix of very talented and inspiring designers, crafts people and artists! The mix of paper products, textiles, children's products and sweet & savoury treats was a delight.

The organic coffee was lovely and very smooth! I also indulged in a savoury pinwheel, whilst my hubbie & girls shared a couple of sweet biscuits & an orange and poppy seed muffin - yum!

Of course I had to buy just a couple of lovely things - the theme being "buttons". A gorgeous hair clip from "Owlet", a pair of button hair ties from "Kupcake Kids", and a gorgeous brooch from "Notions" (will post photos of my purchases tomorrow).

I hope to be able to have my own stall there in the coming months.

The next event - No. 6, will be held on Sunday 6th September.

Welcome to Sunday's Child - What's in a Name?

Welcome to the first blog post for "Sunday's Child".

My business has been established as a creative outlet for me, whilst juggling a busy life as a wife and mother. I have 2 gorgeous daughters - Emma 5yrs & Sophie (nearly 3yrs), who are the inspiration behind the name "Sunday's Child" - they were both born on a Sunday!

For sometime now, I have had the desire to create beautiful, stylish pieces of children's clothing & accessories drawing on my love and enjoyment of sewing & crafts - and so the business was born! I hope you enjoy my blog and my creations - soon to be available at www.sundayschild.com.au
