My Creative Space .... Hearts & Birds

Well I've finally found my sewing "mojo" today. I've been feeling quite guilty that I haven't done more up until now, especially seeing as it's now February! The last 2 weeks though I've found very hard to do much at all as I've been suffering from a tension-type headache. It seems to be lifting now and I actually felt the urge to do something today.

As I have 2 markets coming up very soon - 12th & 20th February, I thought I had better get busy on some things to add to my stock.

The focus today has been on reversible crossover pinafore tops with bird appliques and some heart fabric cards for Valentines Day.

My Creative Space ....

is a mess right now!

It's only 2 sleeps until Mathilda's Market and I've still got a few things left to do. Why is there never enough hours in the day when you have things to do? I think it will be another late night tonight - I was up until 1am this morning.

Anyway, I've finished the last of my Reversible Crossover Pinafore Tops today. The latest fabric combo is a dark stretch denim & a lovely soft pink floral fabric I'm calling "Pink Posy". The applique design is my ever popular bird. I have only made 2 of these (Sz 3 & 4), but still have fabric available for other sizes if anyone is interested in a custom order.

I'm also going to be whipping up some more Dinosaur, Marble & Fairy Goodie Bags, plus embellish some children's scarves - I hope!

Well back to it! For more creative spaces visit Kootoyoo.

This is my latest fabric used in my Reversible Crossover Pinafore Tops. The fabric is called "Zest" and it's a lovely burnt orange/red. Makes me feel all warm & cosy during these wintery days. I have 5 cut out & on their way to being finished (by tonight hopefully) - Sz 12-18mths, 18-24mths, 2, 3 & 4 @ $50 each. I still have more fabric, for additional sizes/quantities, but as always my garments are made in limited quantities.

These will be available for sale at Mathilda's Market here in Hobart next Saturday 17th July, 9am to 1pm.

Hope everyone is having a lovely day.

The Beautiful Milla

At the recent Mathilda's Market here in Hobart I met a lovely customer who had purchased one of my Reversible Crossover Pinafore Tops for her daughter, after seeing a photo on my Facebook page.

She loved them so much that she purchased another pinafore top in the grey/red pinspot with flower applique for her gorgeous daughter Milla. Here's a picture of Milla wearing the top whilst at the park - so cute!

New Designs

At the recent Mathilda's Market I debuted another couple of new designs. As our internet was down for the 2 days leading up to Mathilda's, I was unable to show them prior to the market, so here they are now.

The new Reversible Crossover Pinafore Top in Grey with Red Spot Applique Flowers. The flowers are securely fused then zig zag stitched and embellished with buttons. The reverse side of the pinafore is the red spot fabric.

For the boys, I have a new applique tee - the "Mini Cars". This is another lovely japanese fabric from Retromummy which is fused onto denim which is then fused and zig zag stitched onto a red tee.

Now that Easter is all but over, I will be busy with some more new items, so stay tuned. Hoping you've all had a lovely, relaxing Easter break with family & friends.

50th Post = A Giveaway!

Well this is my 50th post and to mark the occasion I am having my first Giveaway!

So what am I giving away I hear you ask?
Well up for grabs is a beautiful Reversible Crossover Pinafore in your choice of size (12-18mths, 18-24mths, 2, 3 or 4). These pinafores are made from designer fabrics and embellished with a gorgeous applique on one side. This particular pinafore features a lovely green and pink floral fabric one side & a taupe cotton drill with applique hearts on the other. The applique is fused to the fabric and then machine stitched for added strength. It also features ribbon & button embellishments.

The pinafore can be worn on it's own or over a pair of shorts or skirt in summer. In winter, team it with a long sleeve tee & leggings or jeans for a different look. It's not only 2 in 1 and tran-seasonal but can also see your child through from a dress to a top as they grow. I will also throw in a matching pair of hair ties (2) or hair clips (2) as well (your choice).

The total value of this giveaway is:
Reversible Pinafore = $50
Hair Ties/Clips = $6 or $8
= $56 - $58 (depending on choice of hair accessory)

So how do you enter the giveaway?
It's simple really - all you have to do is be a follower of my blog & leave a comment on this post which equals one (1) entry. If you would like a second (2) entry you can also go and join me on Facebook. And finally if you recommend a friend & they follow my blog then you'll receive a third (3) entry. In order to receive the 3rd entry for recommending a friend, you must let me know your name & the name of the person you have referred - just leave me a comment or email me at sonia@sundayschild.com.au.

For those of you with boys, you won't be left out as I will offer another "boy" giveaway in the near future.

So get Commenting, Following on Facebook and Referring. Oh and you have a week - giveaway entries close next Thursday 25th February at 5pm!

More Reversible Pinafore Tops

So I am madly sewing and preparing for my first market this week at The Barn Market at Rosny. I have another set of Reversible Pinafore Tops in a lovely green/pink/brown floral swirl pattern with appliqued hearts on the reverse side.

I really like the fabric and hope that others do too. They are available in one of each size from 12-18mths, 18-24mths, 2, 3 & 4 for $50 each.

Pricing is an interesting topic and one I have read a lot about recently. Things that need to be taken into account are of course cost of materials, labelling/tags, any packaging, the cost of my time to make the item and a small amount for profit. Whilst I really enjoy sewing & creating it would also be nice to make a little money from my venture. Just one reversible top can take me around 1.5 to 2hrs depending on the applique feature and this needs to be taken into account.

Obviously the fact that my items are all meticulously handmade with great attention to detail, unique in design & fabrics used and they are only made in very small quantities is another point to be considered.

Later in the week I will be listing all my prices for the items that will be available at my market stall this Saturday.

Another busy day

After a late night out (got home at 1am - catch up and some "Guitar Hero" with good friends!), we headed off to Kidz Bizzzz Playcentre in Kingston for my daughter's 6th birthday party.

It was a great day, as the kids ran around had a lot of fun, followed by food and cake. Emma received a lot of lovely gifts - creative crafty kits, books, jewellery and a lovely summer dress. I've spent the afternoon doing some of the activities with her - rubber stamp kit, bracelet making and stain glass window decorations.

I've also cooked some cupcakes for her to take to school tomorrow. I still need to ice & decorate them though. I am not sure if they will be any good though, as I have used an "egg free, dairy free" recipe (due to allergies in her class). I've never cooked with this recipe before and the consistency was quite different to a normal cake batter. I'm sure the kids will like them all the same.

On a different note I had to post a picture of the reversible cross-over pinafore top I made again. I had a lovely phone call this afternoon from a friend who saw this top today, being worn by little Ruby. She liked it so much she rang to order one as a Christmas gift for her great niece. I am very excited because this is my first sale and custom order. It's lovely to know that others like my creations.

Special Birthday Present - Reversible Cross-Over Pinafore Top

This is the latest addition to my collection, and I think it's the best yet! This particular pinafore top has actually gone to a little girl who just turned "1" - Happy Birthday Ruby. I will be making more however.

I decided to have one side in a neutral tone and the other a lovely red and white print - quite Christmassy but can be worn any time of the year. Ruby's mum loved the red fabric (it's her favourite colour and her daughter's name is "Ruby"). I love the way the applique bird turned out and I even made a matching birthday card with fabric balloons. I added one of my new swing tags and wrapped it in lovely brown paper with a beautiful red ribbon.

Ruby's mum was very impressed and just loved it and I can't wait to see little Ruby in the top.
